In Assam, 35 candidates are in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in the State for five seats. One candidate withdrew the nomination on Saturday at the Jorhat seat.
The BJP is contesting in all five seats. The Congress has fielded candidates for four seats while supporting Asom Jatiya Parishad at Dibrugarh.
Our Guwahati correspondent reports that for the BJP Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, MP Pradan Baruah, Kamakhya Prasad Tasha and Topon Kumar Gogoi, MLA Ranjit Dutta are in the fray. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, former MLA Roselina Tirkey and Uday Shankar Hazarika are contesting. The President of Asom Jatiya Parishad Lurinjyoti Gogoi is contesting from the Dibrugarh seat.
