Asian stock markets largely shut for May Day holiday

Among the major Asian stock market indices, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index rose 0.4 per cent today, while most other markets in the region were closed due to the May Day holiday. In Europe, London’s FTSE 100 was trading over half a per cent down, while markets in Germany and France were shut for Labour Day.
