Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik said the Northeast looks to NERIST with high expectations, urging the institute to strengthen education, research, innovation and technological excellence while preparing students for emerging challenges and contributing to regional and national development.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik (Retd) on Wednesday visited the campus of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) and said that the entire Northeast region has high expectations from the premier technical institution in the fields of education, research and technological development.
During his visit, the Governor interacted with the Deans and Heads of Departments of NERIST and discussed the institution’s role in preparing students to meet the rapidly changing demands of technology, society and the economy. He described NERIST as a premier technical institution with a distinguished legacy and significant potential to contribute to the development of Arunachal Pradesh and the wider Northeast.
Lt Gen Parnaik, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, said the people of Arunachal Pradesh and the entire Northeast region look towards the institute with great expectations. He emphasised that NERIST has an important responsibility to strengthen its academic and research capabilities and emerge as a centre of technological excellence.
The Governor said technology would play a decisive role in shaping the future of humanity. He noted that the rapidly changing global environment is creating both opportunities and challenges, requiring educational institutions to continuously adapt to emerging developments.
He urged the academic leadership of NERIST to remain ahead of technological changes and ensure that students are adequately prepared to respond to emerging economic, technological and societal requirements. According to him, educational institutions must equip young people not only with technical knowledge but also with the ability to innovate, adapt and develop practical solutions to real-world problems.
Lt Gen Parnaik said the future would belong to individuals capable of creating new ideas, adapting to changing circumstances and developing solutions for complex challenges. He stressed that NERIST should focus on producing graduates who are technologically competent, innovative and socially responsible.
The Governor also highlighted the importance of encouraging students to become creators of opportunities rather than merely job seekers. He said young minds should be motivated to pursue entrepreneurship, research and innovation while developing leadership qualities that can contribute to the progress of Arunachal Pradesh and the nation.
He particularly encouraged the Deans and Heads of Departments to inspire students to pursue excellence in emerging areas of technology. Artificial Intelligence, advanced technologies, research and innovation were highlighted as important fields where students should be encouraged to develop expertise and pursue new opportunities.
The Governor’s interaction also addressed the importance of institutional integrity and collective responsibility. Referring to recent adverse developments on the NERIST campus, Lt Gen Parnaik stressed that every member of the NERIST fraternity has a responsibility to protect the institution’s reputation and contribute to its growth.
He underlined the need for integrity, transparency, honesty and dedication in the functioning of the institution. The Governor called for a shared commitment among faculty members, students and administrators to ensure that NERIST continues to progress while maintaining high institutional standards.
“Our ultimate aim must be to take NERIST to greater heights of excellence and national relevance,” he underscored.
Reaffirming his support for the institute, Lt Gen Parnaik assured NERIST of his full commitment and assistance in strengthening its academic, technological and research capabilities. He said the institution should continue working towards becoming a stronger centre of technological excellence, innovation and nation-building.
The Governor’s visit comes amid a broader emphasis on strengthening technical education, research and innovation in the Northeast. NERIST, with its focus on science, engineering and technology, has a significant role in developing skilled human resources and supporting technological advancement in the region.
The interaction with the Deans and Heads of Departments provided an opportunity to underline the need for academic institutions to remain responsive to changing technological trends and societal requirements. Director, NERIST, Prof. Narendranath S, and In-charge Registrar, NERIST, Prof. Sarsing Gao, were also present during the meeting.
The Governor reiterated that with collective responsibility, academic excellence and a stronger focus on innovation, NERIST can further enhance its contribution to Arunachal Pradesh, the Northeast and the nation.
