Following the tragic murder of Durga Prasanna Dev, also known as Vicky, the former president of Usha Bazar Bharat Ratna Sangh, authorities have apprehended a prominent figure in the region, Pradyot Chowdhury. Vicky, who served as the secretary of the Bharat Ratna Sangh, was fatally shot on Tuesday night in Shalbagan Hatipara.
In addition to Chowdhury, police have detained a driver suspected of transporting Vicky to the location where the heinous crime occurred. The authorities have pointed to a member of the Raju Barman group as the primary suspect in this chilling incident.
However, scepticism looms over the arrests, with some questioning the depth of the investigation and accusing the police of engaging in superficial measures to placate public outcry. Concerns have been raised regarding the failure to apprehend individuals named by Vicky’s wife, raising doubts about the earnestness of the inquiry.
Furthermore, the inability to recover the murder weapon has further heightened tensions among members of the Usha Bazar Bharat Ratna Sangh and local residents. Amidst mounting frustration, former Barajala MLA Dr. Dilip Das has called upon the authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Vicky’s untimely demise.
As investigations progress, residents remain apprehensive, urging swift and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of security in the Usha Bazar community.
