Tripura State Rifles jawans are set to enchant puja revelers in Kalyanpur under Khowai district this year. Durga puja by the 6th bn TSR jawans is a big attraction for people of the entire district.
Upholding its reputation, 6th bn TSR jawans erected an imposing ultra white structure at the battalion HQ premises at Ramchandraghat – a replica of Victoria Memorial on a lush green field surrounded by greenery.
“Durga Puja by the 6th bn TSR grabs the attention of people with its spectacular pandal as well as pious puja ambience. For the last two years, puja celebration was subdued due to corona scare.
However, people are in jovial mood this year – and the puja and pandal of the TSR jawans will be a big draw”, opined local people.
Around 14-15 jawans are toiling hard for the last one month to create a structure resembling Victoria Memorial. Rifleman Deepak Sutradhar is supervising the artworks that require a lot of skills and knowledge about the iconic Memorial.
The artworks inside the pandal are basically done by using bamboo mats. Artists have also improvised and decorated the inside of the Pandal with thermocol-made idols.
He is also overseeing the illumination system along with three riflemen Arjun Debnath, Anup Samant and Sumitra Debnath.
The Victoria Memorial-like pandal is 170 feet in length while its width is 25 feet and height is 40 feet. The idol of the Durga and her divine family will be brought from Chebri under Khowai District at a cost of Rs 40 thousand.
Artisan Nirmal Pal made the idols. Total budget has been pegged at Rs 3.15 lakh, said Commandant of the battalion Jayanta Chakraborty.
