A shocking case of armed dacoity has rattled residents of Maranali village under Bashpukur Gram Panchayat in the Sonamura subdivision of Tripura. The incident, which occurred late Saturday night, has raised serious concerns about safety and law enforcement in the region.
According to sources, a group of unidentified armed miscreants forcefully entered a residential house around midnight. The gang reportedly threatened the family members at gunpoint, effectively silencing them before carrying out the robbery. The criminals looted cash and gold ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees and fled the scene before any immediate help could arrive.
A member of the victim’s family recounted the terrifying ordeal, stating that the attackers were heavily armed. “The gang leader was carrying a pistol and was instructing others. The rest were equipped with tools such as shovels, iron rods, and wrenches. They broke open my wardrobe before entering my parents’ room,” the victim said.
The family reported that approximately Rs 1.3 lakh in cash and gold ornaments weighing around 2.5 bhoris were stolen. The cash had been kept at home to pay construction workers, making the loss particularly distressing.
“We never imagined such an incident could happen here. This is the first time we have witnessed something so serious,” the victim added, expressing shock and fear.
Following the incident, the family raised an alarm, drawing the attention of local residents and the village Pradhaan, who quickly arrived at the scene. Police were informed and conducted a preliminary investigation on Sunday morning.
