AP govt has announced a 2% hike in DA and DR for employees and pensioners, effective from January 1, 2025. Arrears for January–April will be paid in cash. The move reflects the state’s commitment to employee welfare and easing the effects of inflation.
The Arunachal Pradesh government has announced a 2 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for state employees and pensioners. The revised rates raise the existing DA and DR from 53 per cent to 55 per cent of the basic pay and pension.
A senior official from the state’s Finance Department confirmed that the revised DA and DR rates will be effective retrospectively from January 1, 2025. The decision will benefit a broad spectrum of government personnel, including All India Services (AIS) officers serving under the state, Central government employees on deputation to the state, and all categories of pensioners and family pensioners.
The total financial implication of this enhancement is projected at approximately ₹73.22 crore over a span of 14 months. The monthly burden on the state exchequer is expected to be ₹5.23 crore. Specifically, for the four-month period from January to April 2025, the DA component will cost ₹20.80 crore (₹5.20 crore per month), while the DR component will add another ₹0.12 crore (₹0.03 crore per month), totaling ₹20.92 crore.
To ensure timely relief, the arrears for the January–April 2025 period will be disbursed in cash. Starting from May 2025, the enhanced DA and DR will be included in regular monthly salary and pension disbursements.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated the employees on the hike and said that the move underlines the government’s commitment to the welfare of its employees and retired personnel. He noted that the decision also aims to cushion the impact of inflation on household budgets. “We expect our employees to respond by performing their duties with sincerity and dedication,” he remarked.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who also holds the Finance, Planning, and Investment portfolios, shared the development on social media platform X. He stated, “Happy to share that the Government of Arunachal Pradesh has approved a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for employees and pensioners… effective from January 1, 2025.”
He added that the disbursement of arrears in cash and the reflection of the revised rates from May onward underscore the state’s commitment to the economic welfare of its workforce.
This announcement comes as a welcome relief for government employees and pensioners grappling with rising living costs and further highlights the state’s proactive approach to employee welfare.
