Minister Sudhangshu Das underscores awareness and youth engagement at an anti-drug event in Fatikroy. Highlighting Tripura’s zero-tolerance policy, he urges community-driven action, sports involvement, and mental resilience to combat addiction and build a drug-free state.

In a powerful appeal for societal change, Minister of Animal Resources Development, Fisheries, and SC Welfare, Sudhangshu Das, delivered a passionate message at an Anti-Drug Awareness Program held at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Fatikroy on Saturday. The event, titled “Investing in Prevention”, was organized by the Kumarghat RD Block and coordinated by the Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti. It brought together citizens, youth, community leaders, and government officials to reaffirm their collective commitment to building a drug-free Tripura.

Minister Das emphasized that raising awareness and cultivating a positive mindset among youth are critical components in the battle against drug abuse. Speaking to a hall full of enthusiastic participants, he said, “If we want to protect our youth, we must invest in their mindset, empower them with knowledge, purpose, and community support. Awareness isn’t just about information — it’s about creating resilience.”

Das praised the tireless efforts of the BJP-led state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, which has been working steadfastly toward transforming Tripura into a drug-free state. He highlighted that the current administration has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to narcotics, combining strict enforcement with robust rehabilitation measures.

“From enforcement to rehabilitation, the government has taken a multi-pronged approach. We are not just punishing those involved in drug trafficking, but also working to bring victims back into society through recovery and support systems,” he added.

A key message from the Minister’s speech was the idea that drug prevention is not solely a matter for law enforcement, but a broader societal issue requiring unity and compassion. “This event serves as a reminder that the fight against drugs is not just a law enforcement challenge—it is a social movement that requires collective action, compassion, and sustained investment in prevention,” Das said.

As part of the event’s initiative to promote healthy alternatives to drug use, the Minister distributed sports equipment to various clubs and social organizations. This gesture symbolized a commitment to youth development and emphasized the importance of constructive engagement. Physical activity and team-based pursuits, he noted, are effective ways to deter youth from falling into the trap of addiction.

Minister Das expressed hope that these distributed resources would encourage young people to participate in sports and community-building activities, fostering a sense of purpose, unity, and well-being. “Engaging youth through sports and social service is one of the best ways to steer them away from harmful substances. Let us offer them reasons to choose life, health, and hope,” he urged.

The program also included cultural performances and motivational sessions by local leaders and volunteers, which further strengthened the anti-drug message. Through engaging discussions, the event highlighted the importance of early prevention, parental involvement, and community responsibility.

The Minister’s participation in the event is part of a broader state-wide campaign focused on curbing the growing threat of drug abuse. With increasing cases of substance abuse being reported among the youth, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, initiatives like these aim to spread awareness and promote grassroots action.

Local leaders present at the event echoed the Minister’s sentiments, calling on families, educators, and peer groups to play a proactive role in guiding young individuals toward healthier choices. The message was clear: battling drug abuse requires a united front, involving all sections of society—from policymakers to parents and students.
