Livestock plays an important role in the economic development of rural areas. Today, the people of the state are realizing that economic development of rural areas can be achieved through animal husbandry. This belief has been strengthened among the people due to the initiatives adopted by the present state government, said ARDD Minister Bhagaban Chandra Das while inaugurating the newly constructed two-storied building of veterinary hospital and cow breeding sub-centre at Tebaria in Bamutia block on Wednesday.

He said that there is a habit of rearing animal among the people of the rural areas of the state. It is possible to achieve economic self-sufficiency in a very short period of time through animal husbandry. Ducks, chickens, goats, pigs and cows are reared as a source of additional income in the rural areas of our state. The current government has adopted different small and timely plans in animal husbandry following the mindset of people. The benefits of these plans are also visible. The success rate in cow production in the Mukhyamantri Unnat Godhan scheme is 90 percent.

ARDD Minister said that 47 people have been trained and employed as dose tapers by the department for the benefit of animal breeders. Another 50 people will be appointed to this post. 179 DRDA Assistants will be recruited. He said that 700 self-help groups will be given a loan of 50,000 rupees each to become self-reliant through animal husbandry. 13 mobile veterinary vans will be launched in a few days to take faster steps in treatment of animals.

Speaking as the chief guest at the programme, MLA Krishnadhan Das said that a long-time dream of the people of Bamutia has been fulfilled by inaugurating the newly constructed building of this veterinary hospital and cow breeding sub-centre. Residents will get many benefits in terms of animal treatment. Bimal Kumar Das, Additional Director of Animal Resources Development Department also spoke at the programme.
