Agartala Municipal Corporation began eviction of illegal structures from the road side pressing into bull dozers under heavy security arrangements.

On Thursday the AMC task force as scheduled moved to heavily congested Battala area and began demolition of the illegal structures- mostly along Battala Shib Mandir to Dasamighat road..

“We had earlier duly issued a seven-day ultimatum and asked the shop owners to remove their establishments from the roadside.”, AMC personnel said.

This particular road was heavily congested with illegal encroachments of road side spaces and random parking of cars, bikes, scooters, rickshaws, autos  restricting easy and smooth traffic flow and pedestrian movements.

AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder had announced that steps would be taken to clear the congestion in the city and free illegally encroached areas. AMC authorities recently carried drives at Hawkers’ Corner.

“Clearing the roadside from the clutches of encroachers is always a welcome move for the pedestrians. However, it is likely that the vendors would return with their shops again here and the situation would again become congested”, locals said.
