Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has embarked upon an eviction drive to clear the city footpaths from encroachment of the vendors.
AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder along with Commissioner Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav and task force inspected various important market locations of the city on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media, the Mayor said the traders, who illegally occupied the footpaths causing inconvenience to the people, have been asked to make the footpaths free of encroachment by 10 am of Wednesday.
“We promised the people of making the city free of traffic jam and illegal encroachment of footpaths following which an eviction drive will be conducted in the city after 10 am on Tuesday,” the Mayor told the media.
The Mayor said he also visited Hawkers Corner and observed that the businessmen were giving priority to the business only; they were not thinking about their safety.
“If any fire incident takes place, at Hawkers Corner the fire tenders will not be able to enter or any trader falls ill, an ambulance will not be able to due to illegal encroachment by the traders,” the Mayor told the media.
He said, the AMC would serve notice to the businessmen with a time of three days so that they make the Hawkers Corner free of encroachment—the AMC would carry out an eviction drive after three day.
