The 22-year-old Spaniard showcased his best form yet in the tournament, winning 7-6 (10-8), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in three hours and 19 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier. The win also marked Alcaraz’s 100th career victory on clay. He will face 12th-seeded American Tommy Paul next, who cruised past Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in straight sets.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka also progressed, securing her 10th consecutive Grand Slam quarter-final with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Amanda Anisimova. The Belarusian needed eight match points to close out the match and will next meet Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, who narrowly defeated Liudmila Samsonova.
Meanwhile, three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek survived a major scare, rallying from a set and a break down to beat Elena Rybakina 1-6, 6-3, 7-5. With the win, Swiatek extended her Roland Garros winning streak to 25 matches, joining legends Monica Seles and Chris Evert.
