Air quality in Delhi, adjoining cities now at near emergency levels

Must Read

Representational PicThe air quality level in national capital Delhi and adjoining cities have plunged to near emergency levels. According to Central Pollution Control Board CPCB, the Air Quality Index AQI was recorded 462 at 10 AM on Saturday which falls in severe category. A layer of eye-stinging thick smog is lingering over Delhi-NCR.

After reviewing the situation, a sub-committee on Graded Response Action Plan GRAP said meteorological conditions will be highly unfavourable for dispersion of pollutants till 18th of November and agencies concerned must be fully ready to implement measures under emergency category.

Authorities have advised people to limit outdoor activities and told government and private offices to cut vehicle use by at least 30 per cent by working from home, carpooling and optimising field activities.

GRAP is a set of emergency measures to be taken to reduce the air pollution depending on the level of pollution. It was notified in 2017 by Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change to fight air pollution.
