The process of linking Aadhar card to voter ID card of the voters of all the Legislative Assembly constituencies of the state will commence from August 1. The BLOs of the concerned areas will collect Aadhar information door to door through Form 6-B from August 1 next said Chief Election Officer of the state Kiran Gitte in a press conference held at the Secretariat today.
In the press conference, he said, The Representation of the People Act, 1950 and 1951 has been amended by the Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India with the requisition of Election Commission of India. All Aadhar details of the voters shall be kept confidential according to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. This information is being collected to be able to provide advanced services through transparent enlistment of voters in the voter’s list. In case any enlisted voter is unable to provide Aadhar details due to unavailability of Aadhar, the name of the voter shall not be omitted from the voter list. In case any applicant wants to apply for fresh enlistment and is unable to provide Aadhar details, the voter’s application shall not be negated.
The Chief Election Officer also informed in the press conference that this drive will continue for two months- August, September. He also informed that young voters above 17 years of age may apply for enlistment in advance. They need not wait to turn 18 of any year according to the earlier standard. Names will be enlisted four times a year on January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 from now onwards. Earlier, the enlistment used to be done only once a year. But Draft Voter List will be generated only once in January. Whenever any eligible will turn 18, they might enlist their names.
The Chief Election Officer informed that few processes have been amended along with application form for demand/grievance through this amendment. The respective amendment will be in force from August 1, 2022. Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Suman Banik and Assistant Electoral Officer Abhijit Chakraborty were present in the press conference.
