The Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education, Tinku Roy, has made a compelling call for collective awareness and unified efforts to combat the alarming issue of child marriage across the state of Tripura. He emphasized that such deep-rooted societal challenges can only be overcome through coordinated action and community participation.

In honor of International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements and contributions of women globally, the Tripura State Women’s Commission in collaboration with the Social Welfare and Social Education Department organized a vibrant and colorful procession in the capital city of Agartala. The event aimed to spread awareness about women’s rights and promote gender equality.

The procession commenced from the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, proceeding through various streets of Agartala, and was marked by enthusiastic participation and a festive spirit. The streets were adorned with banners and slogans advocating for women’s empowerment, creating an inspiring and lively atmosphere.

Addressing media personnel during the event, Minister Tinku Roy said, “Today is March 8, International Women’s Day. To celebrate this day, a procession has been organized by the Social Welfare and Social Education Department and the State Women’s Commission. In addition, various activities have been taken up by different departments. Basically, the only objective is to respect women, protect women, and make women self-reliant.”

The Minister strongly emphasized the need to transform the popular slogan “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) into a tangible reality rather than just a slogan. He underscored the prevention of child marriage as the central theme of this year’s celebrations and urged every citizen to take a firm stand against this social evil.

Tinku Roy passionately appealed to society to empower women by providing them with opportunities for education, skill development, and economic independence, thereby enabling them to become self-reliant and confident. He expressed his optimism for a brighter future where the women of Tripura would excel and shine not only at the national level but also on the international stage.

Highlighting the achievements of local women who have brought pride to the state, the Minister cited the inspiring examples of Dipa Karmakar, an Olympian gymnast, along with Aaradhya, Ashmita, and Rekha Chakma, whose talents and accomplishments serve as beacons of hope and inspiration for all. He emphasized that these role models exemplify the potential of women when provided with the right opportunities and support.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge to protect and uplift women in every sphere of life, reinforcing the message that empowering women is essential for the holistic progress of society.
