Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma stressed on proper documentation of events and activities to preserve the history. The Deputy Chief Minister, who released a coffee table book ‘Glimpses of Tripura’s Development since 1949’ at the Civil Secretariat on Tuesday observed that without proper documentation there always remained chances of distortion of history.

“It so happened time and again that in absence of proper documentation individual ideas and assumption creep in with different shades and colours that ultimately misinterpret history”, Dev Varma said.

He had ready reference in hand- Royal history of Tripura which had been wrong interpreted and misrepresented by the vested and political interests.

“When a history is misinterpreted or distorted it damages the society – which requires guiding ideas from the past”, he maintained.

Dev Varma also pointed out that now the regional and national aspirations no more clashed with each other, but acted as a complimentary for nation building.

The Coffee Table book- Glimpses of Tripura’s Development since 1949’- that captured the state’s journey since its merger with Indian Union with colourful and rare photographs was published by Planning (P&C) Department. The book in its pictorial narration sought to bring to fore the spectacular transition of Royal Tripura to a vibrant state of the republic of India.

“This book presents a very interesting and useful information of the state’s journey over the past decades”, the Deputy Chief Minister said.

An official release said, as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Coffee Table book was published in an endeavour to describe lucidly the State Government’s sincere efforts with colourful photographic glimpses of the spectacular transition of the state from 1949 till date in the areas of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Sectors highlighting the effort made by the Maharajas of Manikya Dynasty and the State Government.

“As per ‘Rajmala’, 184 Kings ruled the State before its merger with Indian Union. In fact, Maharajas of Manikya Dynasty also contributed immensely in education and other development fields”.

The State Government has been taking several steps to improve connectivity, strengthen and modernise infrastructure, augment power supply, improve health services, empower women, ensure welfare and uplift of weaker sections of the society, eliminate corruption and establish good governance and this has already started to bear fruit, the release said.

The state government is focussing on inclusive development with the spirit of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’ which means growth of every individual, development of every part of the State with everyone’s trust and efforts, it said.
