In a significant move to boost skill development and employment opportunities in the state of Tripura, Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, inaugurated the “Heartland Tripura” project in Agartala.

This collaborative initiative, involving Deloitte and the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), is set to empower undergraduate students from engineering and non-engineering backgrounds with essential skills and career prospects.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, was graced by the presence of Pratima Bhoumik, Minister of State, Social Justice, and Empowerment, Government of India, as the guest of honour, and Santana Chakma, Minister of Industries & Commerce, Jail (Home), and Welfare of OBCs, Government of Tripura, as a special guest.

The “Heartland Tripura” project, implemented in partnership with NIELIT-Agartala and supported by both the central and state governments, will offer a tailored set of skill development certification courses. These courses will not only equip the participants with valuable skills but also open doors to internships that can lead to promising career opportunities upon successful certification and internship completion.

The certification courses under “Heartland Tripura” encompass a wide spectrum of modern technical and professional skills, including cybersecurity, internal audit, analytics, business communication, and executive presence.

Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasised the project’s commitment to providing equal opportunities to both technical and non-technical disciplines. He noted, “Generating skills within oneself is the key to becoming an ultimate achiever in the present generation.” Chandrasekhar expressed confidence that the talents of Tripura’s youth would attract investments in the coming years, contributing to the overall development of the state.

He drew a parallel with well-developed cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi, highlighting that they didn’t become significant urban centres overnight. Rather, they thrived due to their residents’ diverse skill sets, making their regions attractive to investments. Chandrasekhar encouraged the youth of Tripura to acquire a wide range of skills, envisioning a brighter future for the state.
