Polling for Tripura civic bodies are going since 7 am in the morning and are on in full swing. There were reports of sporadic incidents, mostly at Ward no 6 of the AMC , though the voting was largely peaceful.
In total 44 persons were arrested from Prafulla Chandra HS School polling stations and a polling agent belonging to TMC was assaulted.
“Most of the arrests were of the preventive in nature. They were from outside- mostly from Sidhai Mohanpur areas and attempted to create trouble”, said a senior police officer to tripuranet.com.
There were also reports of unfair practice in a booth at Indranagar where polling was put in abeyance for a while.
In front all polling stations a long queue was seen since the voting began- most of the early voters being the women electors.
There were sufficient policemen in all the polling stations.
BJP claimed that the polling was going on in a free and fair manner.
“I have told that people are coming out in festive mood and exercising their right to vote in a festive mood”, said BJP president Dr Manik Saha.
However, opposition parties alleged that in some booths their polling agents were not allowed.
“There were also reports of electors being intimidated and asked to leave as their vote had already been cast by the BJP workers”, alleged TMC leader Subal Bhowmik.
CPM which moved the Supreme Court last night also voiced the same.
