“Every initiative taken by the state government to double farmer’s income by 2022 should be brought forward, only then the public will know about the vision of the government for the welfare of the farmers,” maintained Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a review meeting of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Watershed Development Component yesterday at the Secretariat, said a government press release.

He suggested that the concerned department should keep check on whether the farmer’s production is increasing or not and how many farmers have benefited due to small watershed management in different areas under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Watershed Development Component. He also advised to share the development statistics with the farmers and also share upcoming goals with them. Chief Minister asked the concerned department to work with the goal to take Tripura to the top in doubling farmer’s income by 2022 in which Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana will play a huge part. He also suggested to spread awareness about Paddy procurement at MSP in order to double farmer’s income and financial assistance given to farmers through Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

Agriculture Secretary C.K Jamatia in the meeting informed that Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare department has elected and formed a state-level nodal agency for implementation of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Watershed Development Component.

The objective of implementing Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Watershed Development Component is creating various water sources, irrigation possibilities, creating recharge structure of underground water, increasing land productivity, prevention of soil erosion, maintain moisture of the soil and rural employment. Since the inception of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana under 65 schemes, 2 lakh 55 thousand 368 Ha land has been marked to bring under irrigation. So far under 31 schemes, 2 lakh 13 thousand Ha land has been brought under irrigation.

He informed that total 1,188 new water harvesting structures were built and 451 water harvesting structures were repaired in last 3 financial years (2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21). Crops and bamboo plantation has been done in total 1019 Ha land in last 3 financial years. Also 444 self-help groups were given assistance for pig rearing, poultry farming and goat rearing in last 3 financial years. Apart from this, 1134 landless persons were given financial assistance under Production System and Micro Enterprise scheme.  He also informed that the department has planned to build 115 micro watersheds in next 3 financial years 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 which will create possibility to bring 1 lakh 20 thousand Ha land under irrigation. Apart from this, the department has been implementing Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Watershed Development Component through dam construction, pond excavation, irrigation canal construction, sluice gate construction, pineapple and dragon fruit cultivation, Jal Shakti Abhiyan etc. Others present in the meeting were Transport Secretary Sriram Tarunikant, PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, Planning and Coordination Secretary Apurba Roy, Finance Department Secretary Brijesh Pandey and ARDD Secretary Dipa D Nair.
