Dinesh Debbarma and Sridam Debbarma of the Tipraland State Party (TSP) left TIPRA Motha due to the denial of party tickets during the 2023 assembly elections, claimed Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, former Chairman of TIPRA Motha.

Debbarma faced questions from reporters at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport regarding the recent separation of TSP from TIPRA Motha. The TSP had declared its separation on September 11, citing concerns over TIPRA Motha’s stance on the welfare of the Tiprasa community and the demand for Tipra Land.

Dinesh Debbarma and Sridam Debbarma, in their statement, referred to TIPRA Motha as a ‘Car without a driver’ and expressed uncertainty about its future. Responding to these allegations, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma stated, “Such statements from Dinesh and Sridam are out of frustration as they were not given tickets from Ramchandraghat and other places during the 2023 assembly election.”

Regarding the claims of an ‘uncertain future’ for TIPRA Motha and the ‘fight for Tipra Land,’ Pradyot Kishore Debbarma affirmed, “The fight for Tipra Land and the rights of the Tiprasa people will continue until my last breath and until we achieve the same. TIPRA Motha is just a party or an organization under the banner of which we are fighting. But the real fighters are the indigenous people.” He emphasized the challenges of organizing movements and maintaining unity within the indigenous community.

Debbarma also emphasized the importance of engaging with the present government, whether it be the BJP or any other party in power, to fulfill the demands of Tipra Land and constitutional rights for the Tiprasa people. He challenged Dinesh and Sridam to arrange a meeting with Amit Shah in Delhi if they believe they can do so.

Debbarma pointed out that even he and leaders like Bijoy Hrangkhawl had not received party tickets to contest the last assembly polls but did not sever ties with the party. He urged indigenous people to maintain faith in the ongoing fight for their rights, assuring that it will persist in the days to come.
