Tofajjal Hossain and Bindu Debnath , two newly elected members of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from BJP were sworn in as MLAs. The swearing-in ceremony took place in a ceremonial function in the assembly lobby, with Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen administering the oath of office and secrecy. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, other cabinet ministers, and party MLAs.

The two newly sworn-in MLAs are Tofajjal Hossain, who won from the 20-Boxanagar seat, and Bindu Debnath, who won from the 23-Dhanpur seat. Both MLAs expressed their gratitude to the voters for their trust and support.

MLA Tofajjal Hossain pledged to address essential issues such as drinking water, electricity, proper roads, and healthcare in his constituency, now that he has been entrusted with the responsibility.

MLA Bindu Debnath also promised to work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the common people who voted for her. She emphasized her commitment to the party’s slogan of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Biswas’ (Together with All, Development for All, Trust of All) and mentioned her focus on the overall development of her constituency. She also expressed her dedication to treating minorities and other communities equally and addressing issues like the shortage of teachers in schools and electricity on a priority basis.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed happiness over the victory of the BJP candidates and mentioned that the party’s strength in the assembly had now reached 34, including one MLA cum Minister from the ally IPFT.

However, the opposition parties, CPIM (Communist Party of India – Marxist) and Congress, boycotted the swearing-in ceremony. They claimed that the elections were fraudulent, with allegations of vote rigging, violence, and voter intimidation. Both the state party chiefs of CPI-M and Congress argued that they did not recognize Tofajjal Hossain and Bindu Debnath as MLAs due to the alleged irregularities in the election process.
