In an ambitious move towards bolstering industrial infrastructure and promoting economic growth, the Tripura government is set to receive financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the enhancement of 13 industrial estates across the state.
According to an official press statement, the Tripura government has been aligning its efforts with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) and “Make in India.” As part of this commitment, the state has been actively focusing on industrial development, striving to create a conducive environment for investments.
The press release highlighted that the state has already initiated efforts to attract investments from around the world, particularly in sectors such as rubber, bamboo, tea, gas, agriculture, and horticulture.
Viswashree B., the Director of the Industries and Commerce Department, announced that financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank will be utilized for the development of infrastructure in 13 industrial estates spanning six districts of the state.
The Director further disclosed that the Asian Development Bank had allocated a loan of Rs. 16 crore in 2022 as a project readiness fund. Subsequently, in March of the current year, the state government submitted a proposal requesting Rs. 1200 crore for the primary project. This proposal includes ADB’s contribution of $120 million and the state’s share of $30 million.
The press statement underlined that the project received approval during a meeting of the Screening Committee of the Department of Economic Affairs on August 31. This project is a pivotal component of the state’s infrastructure development agenda.
The allocated funds will be utilized for the development of industrial estates, including locations such as Bodhjungnagar, R.K. Nagar, Dukli, Kumarghat, Dhwajanagar, Dewanpasha, and others. Approximately 1200 acres of land will be designated for this purpose, with 800 acres reserved for industrial setups and an additional 400 acres for supporting facilities.
This ambitious project is expected to pave the way for the establishment of more than 500 industrial units within the state. The Director expressed optimism that the initiative would open up new horizons for socio-economic development in Tripura, furthering the state’s goal of becoming an attractive destination for industrial investments and fostering self-reliance.
