People’s sentiment against the ‘incompetent BJP government’ is gaining momentum among the masses, not only in Tripura but across the entire country, especially in states ruled by the BJP, claimed TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha in a press conference held at Congress Bhawan on Saturday.
Stagnation in State Administration:
Addressing the press, TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha voiced concerns about the current state of the Tripura administration. He alleged, “The state administration has ground to a halt. No work is progressing in the Secretariat, and the people are being deprived of essential services. This situation arises from the fact that the entire state Cabinet has relocated to the Sonamura subdivision due to the upcoming by-election in two assembly constituencies.”
Saha did not mince words when criticizing the BJP’s approach to this situation. He stated, “While it is not uncommon for by-elections to occur in Tripura, it is unprecedented for the chief minister and his council of ministers to spend their entire day in the constituencies scheduled for polls. The chief minister, who bears the responsibility for the entire state and its administration, seems more preoccupied with political affairs than fulfilling his governance duties. This has particularly affected essential services like healthcare.”
People’s Distrust in BJP:
The TPCC president went on to claim, “The BJP’s swift response to the mere by-elections in two assembly seats reveals their awareness that people no longer trust them.”
LPG Price Cut and Political Maneuvering:
Regarding the central government’s announcement of a cut-off in LPG gas cylinder prices, Asish Kumar Saha expressed skepticism. He commented, “As the Lok Sabha elections approach, it appears that more such ‘gifts’ are in store for the people. Prime Minister Modi’s desperation to retain his position is evident in this announcement.”
Saha further criticized the BJP’s actions, saying, “The same BJP government that burdened common people by selling LPG cylinders for Rs 1,100 – Rs 1,300 after purchasing them for Rs 400 is now presenting an ‘affectionate gift’ of a Rs 200 cut-off in LPG prices to woo voters before the elections. Inflation is taking a toll on the pockets of ordinary citizens.”
Defections to Congress:
In related news, members of the Tripura Youth Trinamool Congress, including vice-president Neelkamal Saha, and Trinamool Congress State Committee member Debabrata Deb, officially joined the Indian National Congress on Saturday. The TPCC president, Asish Kumar Saha, and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, along with other party leaders, extended a warm welcome to the new entrants.
These political developments reflect the evolving dynamics in Tripura and the broader national political landscape as parties prepare for upcoming elections and navigate the changing sentiments of the electorate.
