The state’s opposition party, Congress, has launched a scathing critique of the ruling BJP government in Tripura, accusing them of inadequately addressing the rapidly spreading dengue outbreak. Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha expressed deep concern over the situation and directed pointed criticism at Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the health portfolio, for what he perceives as a failure to effectively contain the dengue menace.

Addressing the media, Saha emphasized, “The BJP government has proven ineffective in tackling the dengue outbreak. What’s even more alarming is the lack of official reporting by the state health department regarding the confirmed death due to dengue, which is deeply concerning.”

Saha took the opportunity to highlight the perceived deficiencies in the healthcare system, particularly in district hospitals and healthcare centers spread across the state. He asserted, “The state of health services in district hospitals and other healthcare centers is in shambles. Patients are frequently being referred to the state’s premier hospital, GBP Hospital, due to inadequate health services and infrastructure in the district and subdivisional hospitals.”

Pointing directly at Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who holds dual roles as both the Chief Minister and the Health Minister of the state, Saha demanded comprehensive reforms. He stressed that the government must ensure the availability of proper facilities in all healthcare institutions to alleviate the congestion and burden on hospitals like GBP and IGM in the capital.

Saha outlined a series of recommendations to combat the dengue outbreak effectively. These include the establishment of dengue testing facilities in all hospitals and health centers, bolstering the number of healthcare personnel, and launching widespread awareness campaigns across the state to address the worrisome dengue situation.

  • The opposition’s criticism underscores the urgency of the situation and calls for a coordinated effort between the government and healthcare institutions to effectively manage and control the dengue outbreak.
