The Ranglong community under the banner of Ranglong Youth Association (RYA) has organised a Candlelight protests at Noagang, Dharmanagar, North Tripura on Thursday in solidarity with the Kuki-Zo communities in violence-ridden Manipur.

The Candlelight protests have been joined by thousands of like-minded peoples across the community to express their deep concern on what they called ‘an orchestrated pogrom of the Kuki-Zos in Manipur’.

The community has expressed shock at the way two women were paraded naked in broad daylight.

“The incident is barbaric, savage, uncivilised and wild, which had brought shame to the entire human race. The way the criminals are given the free hand to behave in such a wild manner remains a standing question which needs to be answered by the concerned government”, the Ranglongs have said.

The community has made an appeal to the concerned state and central government for immediate peace and harmony in Manipur.

They have appealed to the incumbent Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh to immediately ‘change his world view on the Kuki-Zo nation and accept the nature of Indian plural society or to leave the Kuki-Zo nation alone to administer themselves’.

Earlier Mizo communities in theJampui Hills and other parts of the region held a similar protest march with candlelights and demanded resignation of Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh.

It may be mentioned here that the Kukis in Manipur and the Mizos and Ranglongs are ethnically closer to each other.

Already thousands of Kukis have come to Mizoram seeking shelter from Manipur. This has also created simmering tension in Mizoram and its adjoining areas with Kuki ethnic stock people
