In a surprising turn of events, the Congress party has made a sudden move by removing Birajit Sinha from his position as the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee Chief. The decision, which took place on Saturday evening, came without any official comments from Congress leaders.

Former MLA Ashis Kumar Saha has been appointed as the new President of the Pradesh Congress Committee, assuming his role with immediate effect. While no specific reason was provided for Sinha’s removal, the All India Congress Committee acknowledged his contributions as the outgoing PCC president. Saha is a known close associate of Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman. Both revolted against the BJP when they were in the Saffron party and left it to rejoin the Congress.

In a press release, K.C. Venugopal, Member of Parliament and AICC General Secretary, stated, “Hon’ble Congress President has appointed Shri Ashis Kumar Saha, Ex-MLA as the President of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.”

Saha, a seasoned politician buta a very man of soft demeanour, contested the 2022 assembly elections from the 8-Town Bordowali seat. He put up a strong fight against his opponent, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, demonstrating his political prowess and determination.

This unexpected leadership change within the Tripura Congress unit has generated interest and speculation among political observers. As the newly appointed PCC president, Ashis Kumar Saha will face the challenging task of leading the party in Tripura– which is not at all in a good shape- and revitalizing its presence before the Lok Sabha elections.
