The G20 exhibition on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) at Savitri Bai Phule Pune University witnessed an impressive display of educational innovations, with Tripura emerging as the star of the event. The northeastern state’s participation in the exhibition earned widespread acclaim for its outstanding initiatives under the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN).

The exhibition, inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of State, Annapurna Devi, witnessed active participation from almost all states and Union Territories, along with renowned international and national bodies such as CBSE, NCERT, Microsoft, Google, World Bank, UNESCO, UNICEF, and several esteemed NGOs.

Right from the first day, Tripura garnered praise from attendees and experts for its remarkable contributions to NIPUN. The state’s stall became a center of attraction due to its innovative Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs), specifically those made from bamboo and handcrafted by teachers. Students and educators from Pune enthusiastically flocked to Tripura’s stall, relishing the opportunity to explore and engage with these unique TLMs. Leading the four-member team from Tripura was Nodal officer of NIPUN Tripura, Abhijit Samajpati, accompanied by Debasish Bhowmik, Mrigank Mukherjee, and Prakash Rao, all members of the Project Management Unit (PMU).

Vipin Kumar, IAS, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Education, visited Tripura’s stall and expressed deep satisfaction with the state’s efforts to ensure the success of NIPUN. The stall and the state’s overall dedication towards NIPUN also received accolades from SPD Samagra Shiksha Madhya Pradesh, S Dhanraju, Secretary Education of Chandigarh, Purva Garg, IAS, Secretary School Education of Jharkhand, Ravi Kumar, IAS, Secretary of Uttarakhand, Ravinath Raman, IAS, Director of Kilkari, School Education Department Bihar,  Jyoti Parihar, and numerous other state officials and representatives from West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.

The success story of Tripura’s Janbhagidari program was evident at the G20 exhibition, with an impressive engagement of approximately 55% of the state’s population. The Janbhagidari program, conducted over a span of 15 days from 1st to 15th June, laid the foundation for the commencement of the G20 Education Working Group (EdWG) exhibition and conferences in Pune, Maharashtra. The NIPUN-PMU, operating under the Directorate of Elementary Education, played a crucial role in strategically planning and implementing Janbhagidari engagements across the state and organizing the exhibition.

With the primary objective of achieving universal acquisition of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills by 2026-27, the NIPUN-PMU has been at the forefront of planning, supporting implementation, monitoring, and reporting all NIPUN-related activities. Notably, NIPUN Tripura has become the talk of the schools throughout the state, generating enthusiasm and inspiring other educational institutions with its various initiatives spearheaded by the Directorate of Elementary Education.
