In a joint review meeting, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Ratan Lal Nath, has announced today that the State government will provide a subsidy for the transportation of Pineapple, Areca Nut, and Jackfruit, among other crops, to support the farmers.

The initiative comes as part of the government’s commitment to doubling the earnings of farmers and addressing the major issue of transportation costs faced by the agricultural community. Under this subsidy program, farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs 5 per kg in transportation costs for Pineapple, Jackfruit, and Areca Nuts, enabling them to increase their profits.

During the review meeting, the minister has  also emphasized the importance of addressing the lower production of Ayush paddy due to insufficient rainfall. To compensate for the losses incurred by farmers, the government will launch an Integrated Crop Management (ICM) initiative. This program will focus on increasing the production of Aman paddy, along with the cultivation of various fruits, pulses, and vegetables, allowing farmers to mitigate their losses effectively.

Furthermore, Minister Nath has  highlighted the decline in the production of indigenous fruits such as Litchi, Indian blackberry, and Apple Ber. In response, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department will take proactive measures to boost the production of these fruits in the State, ensuring sustainable agricultural practices.

In an effort to provide farmers with accessible information, the government will also introduce the Kishan Sahayata App. This mobile application will serve as a comprehensive resource, containing essential details related to weather forecasts, agricultural practices, and other relevant information to support farmers in their decision-making processes.

In another groundbreaking move, Minister Nath revealed plans to introduce the Urban Horti project across all 20 Urban bodies in the State. This unique initiative will promote the cultivation of horticultural crops such as fruits, vegetables, and flowers. To address the scarcity of open land, rooftop cultivation will be encouraged, providing an innovative solution to maximize urban agricultural potential.

The State government’s efforts to support farmers and promote sustainable agriculture are commendable. These initiatives aim to enhance farmers’ incomes, increase crop productivity, and provide necessary resources to help them overcome challenges effectively. With the implementation of these measures, the State hopes to create a thriving agricultural sector and ensure the welfare of its farmers.
