A high-level meeting took place at the Secretariat’s Conference Hall on Monday, with the aim of creating state-level awareness about the ‘Mission LIFE’ programme. Chaired by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, the meeting brought together key officials, including Principal Secretary KS Shetty from the Department of Science and Technology, to discuss the programme’s objectives.

The primary objective of ‘Mission LIFE’ is to transform the prevention of climate change into a public movement by encouraging behavioral changes. The campaign aims to raise awareness and promote engagement among the general public.

During the meeting, Animesh Das, the Director of the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment, underscored the significance of adopting eco-friendly habits in daily life to protect the environment. He presented a comprehensive overview of the ‘Mission LIFE’ campaign initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, showcasing its focus on key areas such as energy conservation, water conservation, waste management, and more.

The Union Ministry has set a target for the State Department of Science, Technology, and Environment to organize 2,000 activities throughout May under the ‘Mission LIFE’ programme. Already, 403 activities have been successfully conducted. Das also discussed the action plans devised by various state government departments to implement the programme, including the introduction of the ‘Meri LIFE’ portal.

The ‘Mission LIFE’ programme aims to create a significant impact by encouraging individuals to embrace sustainable practices and actively contribute to mitigating climate change. With strong support from the state government and collaboration among various departments, the programme is expected to foster a collective effort towards building a greener and more sustainable future for all.
