In a startling turn of events with far-reaching political implications, Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb made explosive allegations during a press conference held at his official residence on Sunday. Deb accused the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being infiltrated by “external influences” that were detrimentally affecting the party’s functioning in Tripura. While he refrained from naming anyone specifically, he alerted the party’s top leadership about this matter.

Deb criticized the interference of thesea external elements, which he claimed was weakening the party’s organizational structure. Although he provided no explicit details about the nature or sources of these influences, he referred to the presence of “outsiders” and individuals with an “infiltrator mentality” within the state BJP unit.

Expressing his unwavering faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president J P Nadda’s leadership, Deb affirmed his commitment to working in any capacity assigned to him by the party. He stressed that the BJP did not belong to any particular individual and expressed confidence in the party’s popularity among the people of Tripura, confidently predicting victory in the state’s upcoming 2024 Parliamentary elections.

The press conference and Deb’s statements have ignited widespread speculation within political circles. Sources reveal that Deb had intended to disclose more specific information, but just prior to the press conference, he received a call from New Delhi, engaging in a half-hour discussion with undisclosed party higher-ups. While he did not cancel the press meet, he intentionally evaded questions from the media, maintaining vagueness about his allegations.

Following the press conference, Deb promptly departed for New Delhi, where he is slated to meet the party’s top brass. Sources indicate that the MP had originally planned to stay in the state for three days. The implications of his allegations and the subsequent meeting with party leaders in Delhi have cast a cloud of uncertainty over Tripura’s political landscape.

Political observers eagerly await further developments, as the repercussions of Deb’s claims reverberate through the BJP and the state’s political arena.
