Guwahati/IBNS/UNI: Union Home Minister Amit Shahs visit to Assam has been postponed to May 26 due to the current political and social situation in Manipur and other northeastern states.

The visit was scheduled to commemorate the second term in office of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led alliance government on May 11.

As a result, the distribution of appointment letters to newly recruited candidates has also been postponed to May 26, as announced by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference in Guwahati.

However, the joining dates for the candidates remain unchanged, and they are expected to start on June 1, 2023.

CM Sarma also informed the media that the Union Home Minister will lay the foundation stone of the National Forensic Science University in Guwahati on May 26.

The state government plans to allot approximately 150 bighas of land near the AIIMS Guwahati for the universitys construction.

This move is significant for Assam, as Guwahati will be the second city in India, after Ahmedabad in Gujarat, to have a National Forensic Science University.
