Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb, has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art hospital in Tripura that will be modeled on the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong. Speaking to reporters at his official residence on Sunday, Deb stated that the decision to build a hospital similar to NEIGRIHMS instead of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) came after a thorough study that revealed the latter would require massive infrastructure and take much longer to establish.
Deb further explained that the process of acquiring land for an AIIMS in Tripura is still pending with concerned authorities and could take an indefinite amount of time. As a result, the government has decided to introduce a hospital similar to NEIGRIHMS in the state, which is expected to take only 5-6 years to complete.
The former Chief Minister made these announcements following the success of the Sangsad Health Camp, a three-day event that took place from April 28 to 30 in the cities of Khowai, Mohanpur, and Shantirbazar. The event, which saw the participation of eight expert doctors from reputed hospitals across the country, provided free health services to the poor.
Deb commended the success of the Sangsad Health Camp and stated that it was organized with the objective of providing better healthcare services to people, particularly those who cannot afford them. He added that the event also served to enhance collaboration between medical professionals from the state and experts from AIIMS and other top hospitals in the country.
Moreover, the Sangsad Health Camp provided an opportunity for medical professionals from Tripura to exchange views and opinions with their more experienced counterparts. This, in turn, could lead to an increase in telemedicine and video conferencing to attend patients, Deb stated.
Deb also praised the expert doctors for their dedication and hard work in providing health services to people in Tripura during the event. He added that these doctors are keen on visiting the state again in the future.
In conclusion, Deb expressed his desire to conduct more events like the Sangsad Health Camp in the future to improve healthcare services in Tripura.
