The statement said the program has given voice to inspiring stories of individuals from the North East, such as Bijay Shanti from Manipur, who founded a start-up that produces thread from lotus stems, and Mawlynnong, a village in Meghalaya that has been dedicated to cleanliness and was awarded ‘Asia’s cleanest village.’
PM Modi has also acknowledged the efforts of individuals like Jadav Payeng, who has been working for forest conservation in Assam and documented the Karbi language for the last 20 years.
Other initiatives highlighted in the program include a Self Help Library in Arunachal Pradesh, a Sugarcane Festival to promote sugarcane production in Mizoram, and the efforts of Anurag Agarwal and Sidhi Karnani, who focus on global marketing of herbal and organic produce in Sikkim. PM Modi has also praised the Brahmaputra Pushkar festival and Sange Sherpa’s work towards environmental protection at an altitude of 12,000 feet in Sikkim. The program emphasizes the importance of the Act East Policy and encourages the active participation of the North-East people in addressing issues and problems in the region.
