T he state government has announced the formation of a Special Task Force (STF) to combat organized criminal groups, crime syndicates, and extortion gangs operating in the region. The STF will have statewide jurisdiction and will be headed by the Superintendent of Police (Economic Offences).

The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, who also holds the home portfolio, announced the formation of the STF in his social media posts on Saturday. According to Saha, the objective of the STF is to take focused action against organized criminal groups, criminal syndicates, extortion gangs, and similar such crimes.

The STF will be part of the Tripura Police Crime Branch and will take action against criminals involved in extortions and other illegal activities. The Chief Minister’s announcement came after a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, where they discussed various issues related to Tripura.

Sources close to the Chief Minister revealed that during the meeting, Shah emphasized the need for strict action against drug menace and organized crimes in the state. In response to this, the Tripura government had set up the first-ever Crime Branch Police Station (CBPS) earlier this week to investigate cases related to economic offenses, serious crimes, and narcotics-related offenses.

The CBPS will have jurisdiction all over the state and will conduct inquiries into economic offenses, serious crimes, and offenses under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The formation of the STF and CBPS shows the government’s commitment to combating organized crime and ensuring the safety and security of the people of Tripura.

The formation of the STF and CBPS is a significant step towards maintaining law and order in Tripura. The government’s efforts to combat organized crime and drug menace will help create a safer and more secure environment for the people of the state.
