With slight modification, the story of the thief Pintu Das could have been a typical James Hadley Chase novel a la Come Easy, Go Easy. It took two days for the desperate cops to track and nab Pintu after he jumped a Covid Care Centre in Udaipur.

During his imprisonment, Pintu tested Covid positive and accordingly he was taken to the Covid Care Centre of Udaipur. The cunning thief, however, escaped from the Covid Care Centre at night on Thursday last sending the Police into a tizzy.

Police led by Rajib Debnath, OC of R.K. Pur Police Station started the combing operation. At last Pintu Das was detained by police from Rahimpur Bazar area near the Bangladesh Border Saturday early morning. After arresting him, Police took him to Tripura Sundari Hospital of Udaipur for a medical check-up and covid test.

Pintu will be produced before the Court if he becomes Covid negative. Meanwhile, SP of Gomati appreciated the roles of three police personnel Asif Sarkar, Titan Mia and Dipak Deb in arresting Pintu Das.
