The whole city of Agartala has welcomed the delegates of G-20 in befitting manner.
The agenda of discussion will we on Renewable Energy to bring down carbon footprints and on climate change.
A small state like ours has made remarkable beginnings in solar power taking it to the remotest corners of the state to light up lives and to build awareness on the benefits of Renewables for those living in the margins.
A pilot of a solar hamlet cum Bio- village 2.0 has been set in a tribal hamlet Kharansingh Kami under Killa block with Solar street lights, Micro solar grid to supply power to house holds , solar irrigation pumps to double marginal farmers income through double cropping.
Through Bio village 2.0 livestock, organic farming , mushroom cultivation with intensive handholding is carried out.
All remote Village Markets under the state project of “Grameen Bazaar Aalok Jyoti Yojana” have been lit up by solar lights to enable small and marginal farmers to experience ease of doing business by allowing them to extend their business hours in the evenings. Under Pmdevine a project of Rs 80 crores sanction for establishing 500 solar micro grids in remote villages where grid connectivity is not feasible.
The PmKusum ( solar irrigation pumps ) scheme of the Central Government has been further subsidised by the state government through NABARD to maximise its benefits for small farmers. The diesel pumps are being solarised through this same scheme as a measure to save fossil fuels.
Agreement of a major project of solar power jointly with solar power development corporation , a public sector enterprise has come through just prior to the Assembly Elections.
As a step to lead by example the State Secretariat has now become a green one powered by solar energy. The first perhaps in the region.
So the state government is all set to take a major leap in the Renewable Power Sector for lighting up lives and also make a meaningful contribution towards the global concern of Climate Change.
