CBSE has announced that Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations for 2027 will begin on February 16. More than 46 lakh students have registered, with the board releasing the examination schedule 101 days in advance to support preparation.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations for the 2027 academic year will begin on February 16, with all examinations scheduled to commence at 10:30 am. The Board released the date sheets on Friday, giving students and schools advance notice to prepare for the upcoming examinations.

According to the CBSE, more than 19.8 lakh students of Class 12 and over 26.5 lakh students of Class 10 have registered for the 2027 board examinations. The combined number of registered candidates exceeds 46 lakh, highlighting the scale of the national-level examinations.

In an official statement, the Board said the examination schedules had been finalised after completing the List of Candidates (LOC) submission process by schools. The LOC data provided the CBSE with final information about the subject combinations selected by students, enabling it to prepare the date sheets accordingly.

The Board stated that Class 10 students would appear in examinations covering 83 subjects, while Class 12 students would take examinations across 121 subjects. The date sheets have been released 101 days before the commencement of the examinations, allowing candidates sufficient time to organise their studies and revision schedules.

The CBSE said that preparing the examination timetable required careful consideration of more than 40,000 subject combinations. The objective was to ensure that examinations for two subjects selected by the same student did not take place on the same date.

Adequate gaps have also been provided between examinations of subjects that are commonly opted for together by students in both classes. The Board said these arrangements were intended to give candidates sufficient preparation time between papers and reduce examination-related pressure.

While preparing the schedules, the CBSE also considered the tentative dates of major entrance examinations for Class 12 students. According to the Board, every effort has been made to complete the board examinations well before the commencement of these entrance tests so that students can focus on their preparations for higher education without unnecessary scheduling difficulties.

The examination timetable has also been designed after considering the number of candidates expected to appear at individual examination centres on particular days. The Board said this assessment would help ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of examinations across the country.

In addition to students’ convenience, the CBSE considered the academic responsibilities of teachers while finalising the schedules. The Board explained that the examination dates had been arranged to minimise the prolonged absence of teachers from their respective schools during the evaluation process.

The advance release of the date sheets is expected to help students, parents and educational institutions plan their academic activities more effectively. Schools can also organise revision classes, practical preparation and other examination-related arrangements according to the announced timetable.

With more than 46 lakh candidates registered across Classes 10 and 12, the 2027 CBSE board examinations will be a major academic exercise involving schools and examination centres throughout the country.

The Board has urged students to use the available preparation period effectively and follow the official examination schedule while planning their studies. The February 16 commencement date marks the beginning of the 2027 board examination cycle for both Class 10 and Class 12 candidates.
