Leaders across India mourn veteran actor Nana Patekar’s death at 75, remembering his powerful performances in Hindi and Marathi cinema, his deep connection with ordinary people, and his significant contributions to farmers, drought-hit communities and social welfare.

Leaders across the nation mourned the demise of veteran actor Nana Patekar, describing his death as the end of an era and a major loss to Indian cinema and society. Political leaders remembered the acclaimed actor not only for his powerful performances in Hindi and Marathi films but also for his strong connection with ordinary people and his contributions to social causes.

Congress MP Imran Masood said Nana Patekar’s passing marked the end of an era, comparing his stature in Indian cinema with legendary actor Dilip Kumar. He said that just as there could be no replacement for Dilip Kumar, there could be no one like Nana Patekar.

Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar also expressed grief, calling the actor’s demise a major loss for Maharashtra and India. He highlighted Patekar’s strong social voice and his efforts to raise awareness about issues concerning addiction, youth and farmers.

Congress leader Manikrao Thakare recalled Patekar as an actor who not only influenced the film industry but was also deeply loved by common people. He said Patekar truly represented the hearts of ordinary citizens and used his influence to work for society beyond cinema.

Thakare particularly remembered the actor’s work in drought-hit areas and regions facing severe water shortages. He also highlighted Patekar’s efforts in areas affected by farmer suicides, including initiatives aimed at improving water resources and supporting farmers and rural communities.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut described Patekar’s sudden death as a shock and remembered him as both a great actor and a great human being. Raut said the actor carried a strong sense of Marathi identity and pride while establishing himself as one of the most respected performers in Hindi cinema.

Raut also recalled Patekar’s contribution to Marathi theatre and cinema, saying his presence on stage and screen was marked by a commanding performance. He referred to him as a “Natsamrat” and praised his work across Marathi theatre, Marathi cinema and Hindi films.

Badnera MLA Ravi Rana expressed deep sorrow over the veteran actor’s death, describing him as a remarkable artiste who worked successfully in both Hindi and Marathi cinema. Rana also remembered Patekar as a simple and humble person who warmly interacted with people.

Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC said India had lost one of its finest actors. She highlighted Patekar’s intensity, distinctive dialogue delivery and honesty, both on-screen and off-screen. According to her, while audiences remembered him as a hero on screen, his social contributions made him a real-life hero as well.

Shaina also highlighted Patekar’s acclaimed Marathi film Natsamrat, calling it among his finest works. She noted that despite his three National Awards, Padma Shri and four decades in Indian cinema, his commitment to farmers’ rights would remain an important part of his legacy.

Nana Patekar, one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated performers, passed away at the age of 75 in Goa. Known for his intense acting style and powerful dialogue delivery, he built a distinguished career spanning more than four decades across Hindi and Marathi cinema.

Born Vishwanath Patekar on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, he made his Hindi film debut with Gaman in 1978. He subsequently established himself as an actor capable of portraying complex, unconventional and deeply emotional characters.
