The second India- European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Prosperity Summit was held in New Delhi today. The summit brought together senior Indian and EFTA officials, business leaders and industry representatives to discuss trade, investment and economic cooperation. President of Switzerland Guy Parmelin who is currently on a three day visit to India was present in the Summit. He arrived in New Delhi on Monday. India and the EFTA, comprising Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, mark one year since the implementation of their Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement.
Talking to reporters after attending the Summit, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that productive discussions took place between the Ministers and businesses on both sides.
Mr Vaishnaw said that the European countries today considers India as a major hub for innovation and manufacturing. He said, several kinds of partnerships are being established with India, which will also facilitate the exchange of technology. He said, this is expected to create approximately one million new jobs in total and generate new opportunities for the youth.
