Tripura’s draft electoral rolls for 21 urban local bodies show women voters outnumbering men, with 6.31 lakh registered electors. The SEC will finalise claims and objections by October 8 and publish the final rolls on October 15 ahead of civic polls.
Women voters have outnumbered men in Tripura’s draft electoral rolls for the upcoming elections to 21 urban local bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), according to data released by the State Election Commission (SEC).
The draft electoral rolls contain a total of 6,31,388 registered voters across the 21 urban local bodies. Of these, 3,22,360 are women, 3,08,983 are men and 45 are third-gender electors. The figures indicate a gender ratio of 1,043 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.
The SEC has initiated preparations for the upcoming urban civic elections, which are required to be held by December this year. SEC Secretary Anurag Sen said the process of finalising the electoral rolls is currently underway. Claims and objections to the draft rolls will be accepted and processed until October 8, following which the final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 15.
The draft roll data shows that women constitute the majority of voters in almost all of the state’s 21 urban civic bodies. Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat and Melaghar Municipal Council, both located in Sepahijala district, are the only two urban bodies where male voters outnumber female voters.
In Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat, male voters exceed female voters by 147, while in Melaghar Municipal Council, the difference stands at 119 voters. In the remaining urban local bodies, women voters are ahead of men in the draft electoral rolls.
The Agartala Municipal Corporation, the largest urban local body in the state, has 1,85,099 female electors, 1,77,497 male electors and 36 third-gender electors. With more than 3.62 lakh registered voters, the AMC accounts for a substantial share of the total electorate across the state’s urban civic bodies.
The SEC has also completed the process of finalising the list of polling stations for the forthcoming municipal and Nagar Panchayat elections. The final list includes 783 polling stations covering the Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 Municipal Councils and seven Nagar Panchayats.
The Agartala Municipal Corporation has the highest number of polling stations, with 439. The arrangements are being made as the SEC moves ahead with preparations for elections across the urban areas.
Around nine lakh people live within the jurisdiction of the 21 urban local bodies spread across eight districts of Tripura. More than four lakh residents live within the Agartala Municipal Corporation area, making the capital’s civic election particularly significant in terms of electorate and administrative preparations.

The civic administration in Agartala has a long institutional history. The Agartala Municipality was established in 1871 during the reign of Maharaja Chandra Manikya, who ruled the erstwhile princely state from 1862 to 1896. The Agartala Municipal Council was later upgraded to the Agartala Municipal Corporation on January 21, 2014.
With the publication of the final electoral rolls scheduled for October 15, the SEC is expected to continue preparations for the civic elections, including polling arrangements and other election-related measures, as the state moves towards the polls later this year.
