Tamil Nadu CM C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to visit Madurai on September 28, with enhanced security planned for his hospital programme, Gandhi Museum inauguration and possible Meenakshi Amman Temple visit amid ongoing post-consecration rituals.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to visit Madurai on September 28, with police and district authorities stepping up security arrangements ahead of his first visit to the city since assuming office. The proposed itinerary includes a programme at Government Rajaji Hospital, the inauguration of the renovated Gandhi Museum and a possible visit to the Meenakshi Amman Temple.
Security agencies are reviewing arrangements along the Chief Minister’s expected route from Madurai airport to Government Rajaji Hospital and other venues. Particular attention is being given to the Meenakshi Amman Temple, where a large number of devotees are expected amid ongoing post-consecration rituals.
According to the proposed schedule, Chief Minister Vijay is expected to inaugurate the ‘Thai Maman Gold Ring’ programme at Government Rajaji Hospital at around 12.30 p.m. The initiative is intended for newborn babies delivered at government hospitals. The programme was initially planned to be held in Usilampatti but has subsequently been shifted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. Authorities have not publicly stated the reason for the change in venue.
Following the hospital programme, Vijay is expected to inaugurate the renovated Gandhi Museum at around 1 p.m. The museum is among the key stops included in the proposed itinerary for his Madurai visit.
The Chief Minister is also expected to visit the Meenakshi Amman Temple at approximately 4.30 p.m. However, officials have not formally confirmed the temple visit or its exact timing. Police and temple authorities have nevertheless begun preparations in view of the possibility of the Chief Minister offering prayers at the shrine.
The security arrangements are expected to involve police personnel from Madurai as well as officers from other areas. Deployment will focus on crowd management, traffic regulation, route security and maintaining smooth movement around the venues. Authorities are also assessing arrangements near Government Rajaji Hospital, where members of the public and workers of Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam are likely to gather.
The proposed temple visit comes shortly after the Meenakshi Amman Temple’s consecration ceremony, which was held on September 17 for the first time in 17 years. The ceremony drew lakhs of devotees to the temple, resulting in extensive crowd management arrangements.
Mandala pujas began on September 18 and are scheduled to continue until October 2. The ongoing religious observances are expected to attract additional devotees to the temple during the Chief Minister’s visit, making crowd and traffic management a key focus for the authorities.
Preparations are also continuing at Government Rajaji Hospital ahead of the programme. Parts of the hospital campus are being refurbished and painted, while workers are carrying out road-related work along the expected travel routes. Pothole-ridden stretches are being repaired and fresh layers of tar are being laid in preparation for the visit.

Local police are expected to finalise the deployment plan and traffic arrangements after the Chief Minister’s itinerary is formally confirmed. Officials are preparing arrangements to manage crowds at both the hospital and the temple while ensuring that patients, devotees, staff and other visitors can access the respective locations without disruption.
The September 28 visit will mark Chief Minister Vijay’s first trip to Madurai since taking office, with preparations continuing across the city ahead of the proposed programmes.
