CPI(M) seeks security for candidates in Kamalpur ahead of Srirampur Village Committee elections, protests alleged attack on candidate’s residence and demands immediate arrests, police action and adequate security arrangements to ensure a peaceful election process.
Political tensions have resurfaced in Kamalpur ahead of the upcoming Srirampur Village Committee elections after an alleged attack on the residence of a CPI(M) candidate, prompting the party to demand immediate police action and enhanced security for its candidates.
According to CPI(M) leaders, unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked the residence of one of the party’s candidates during the late hours of the night. The CPI(M) alleged that supporters of the BJP and TIPRA Motha were behind the incident. However, the allegations have not been independently verified.
Condemning the alleged attack, the CPI(M) organised a protest march through Kamalpur town on Friday. Party leaders and supporters raised demands for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the incident and adequate security for CPI(M) candidates during the election process.
The procession passed through several parts of Kamalpur town before concluding at the office of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO). Following the protest march, a delegation of CPI(M) leaders met the SDPO and submitted a memorandum seeking prompt action against those allegedly involved in the incident.
Senior CPI(M) leaders, including Kalyani Roy, Subir Deb, Suleman Ali, Himadri Dutta and Anjan Brahma, participated in the protest. The leaders said that maintaining security and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere would be essential ahead of the Srirampur Village Committee elections.
Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) leaders alleged that the incident was aimed at intimidating opposition candidates and creating an atmosphere of fear ahead of the elections. They called upon the police administration to identify those responsible for the alleged attack and take appropriate legal action.
The party leadership also demanded adequate security arrangements for all its candidates so that they can participate in the election process without intimidation or disruption.
The CPI(M) leaders further warned that the party would intensify its protest programmes if the alleged attackers were not arrested and sufficient security arrangements were not made for its candidates.

With the Srirampur Village Committee elections approaching, the incident has added to political tensions in Kamalpur, while the CPI(M) has urged the administration and police to take necessary steps to maintain peace and ensure a secure election environment.
