Tripura University (TU) marks its 40th Foundation Day on October 2 with a focus on research, academic partnerships, industry linkages and social engagement, alongside celebrations attended by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and representatives from leading universities and professional institutions.
Tripura University is set to mark its 40th Foundation Day on October 2 with a programme that will not only commemorate the institution’s four-decade journey but also focus on research, academic partnerships, industry linkages and engagement with society.
Chief Minister Professor Dr Manik Saha has consented to attend the Foundation Day programme as the chief guest, while University Chancellor Ahmed Javed will preside over the event. The programme has been planned under the initiative of Vice-Chancellor Professor Debabrata Das, with representatives from academic, professional and industry institutions expected to participate.
Established on October 2, 1987, Tripura University has evolved as an important higher education institution in the state. As it enters its 40th year, the university is seeking to use the Foundation Day programme as an opportunity to outline its priorities for the next phase of institutional development.
A key feature of the programme is expected to be the signing of proposed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with educational and professional institutions. According to university sources, the proposed collaborations are aimed at strengthening cooperation in education and research while creating opportunities for academic exchange and joint initiatives.
The areas being considered include knowledge-sharing, interaction between teachers and students, collaborative academic activities and research. Such partnerships are expected to provide avenues for faculty and students to engage with other institutions and participate in wider academic and research initiatives.
The Foundation Day programme will also bring together senior representatives from universities and professional institutions. The President of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India is expected to attend the event. Vice-Chancellors of the Central University of Haryana, Assam University (Central) and Devi Ahilya University, Bhopal, are also expected to be present.
Alongside academic partnerships, the university is placing emphasis on stronger links between academia and industry. Bandhan Group Chairman Chandra Shekhar Ghosh is scheduled to attend the programme, providing an opportunity for discussions around possible areas of institutional and industry cooperation.
The proposed industry engagement is expected to support greater interaction between academic work and practical requirements. Areas such as research, professional exposure and knowledge exchange could form part of the broader engagement between the university and industry stakeholders.
The Foundation Day celebrations will begin with the hoisting of the national flag. Tree plantation and cleanliness drives have also been planned as part of the programme, reflecting the institution’s emphasis on environmental awareness and social responsibility. A tribute to Mahatma Gandhi will also be organised.
The university will felicitate teachers and other individuals who have contributed to its academic and institutional development over the years. A cultural programme involving students, teachers, researchers and non-teaching employees is also scheduled as part of the celebrations.
