State Election Commissioner (SEC) Dr. P.K. Chakraborty reviews Village Committee election preparedness in North Tripura, focusing on security deployment, polling logistics, force movement, communication networks and arrangements for peaceful, fair and smooth conduct of the upcoming polls.
With the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections approaching, the State Election Commission has intensified its review of poll preparedness across Tripura. On Thursday, State Election Commissioner Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, accompanied by Acting Director General of Police G.S. Rao, reviewed the election arrangements in North Tripura district, with a particular focus on security deployment, logistics and operational challenges in remote areas.
The review meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the District Magistrate and Collector in Dharmanagar. Senior officials from the district administration and police department participated in the meeting, including the Superintendent of Police, North Tripura, Additional Superintendent of Police, Additional District Magistrate, Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, Election Observers and Sub Divisional Police Officers.
During the meeting, officials assessed the overall preparedness for conducting the Village Committee elections in a free, fair, peaceful and smooth manner. Discussions covered several key aspects of the electoral process, including the movement of polling parties, arrangements at dispatch and receiving centres, logistical requirements and real-time monitoring mechanisms for polling day.
Dr. P.K. Chakraborty reviewed the district administration’s compliance with the directives issued by the State Election Commission. The review also covered voter awareness initiatives, security arrangements in sensitive locations and procedures for the safe return of polling personnel and election materials after voting.
The State Election Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the preparations and said the arrangements were being closely monitored to ensure that the election process remains peaceful and transparent. Authorities also stressed the importance of coordination between the election machinery, civil administration and police department during every stage of the polling process.
The police administration separately briefed the Commission on the deployment of security forces, area domination exercises and communication arrangements. According to the officials, central security forces have already been deployed and are conducting patrols and maintaining vigilance in sensitive and vulnerable areas.
Acting DGP G.S. Rao said the overall security arrangements were satisfactory, while pointing out certain operational challenges in the interior and hilly areas of North Tripura. Poor road conditions and weak mobile connectivity in some locations could create difficulties, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. The police department, however, has taken measures to address these challenges and maintain uninterrupted election-related operations.
Rao informed the meeting that 74 companies of central paramilitary forces, including CRPF, CAPF, BSF, SSB and ITBP personnel, have been deployed across Tripura in connection with the elections. Of these, 12.5 companies have been assigned to North Tripura district.
The deployed forces are already carrying out area domination patrols in different parts of the district. Their deployment is expected to continue through the counting phase to maintain security and support the transparent conduct of the electoral process.
Officials also reviewed the arrangements for polling personnel, election materials and movement between various polling locations. Particular attention was given to ensuring effective coordination and communication in areas where geographical conditions and connectivity could pose challenges.

The meeting underlined the importance of continuous monitoring and close coordination among the State Election Commission, district administration and police authorities. With security forces already undertaking patrols and election officials reviewing logistical arrangements, preparations are being closely watched ahead of the Village Committee elections.
Authorities said the coordinated efforts are aimed at preventing disruptions, maintaining public confidence and ensuring that voters can participate in the electoral process in a peaceful environment across North Tripura.
