Zubeen Garg death probe continues in Assam fast-track court as Singapore-based Assamese Abhimanyu Talukdar appears as a prosecution witness. The court is examining testimony linked to the singer’s final hours, yacht outing, and circumstances surrounding his death in Singapore.
The prosecution continued examining witnesses in the death case of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, with Singapore-based Assamese Abhimanyu Talukdar appearing before a fast-track court in Assam on Wednesday. Talukdar’s appearance is part of the ongoing proceedings examining the circumstances surrounding Garg’s final hours in Singapore.
Talukdar is among several overseas-based Assamese witnesses whose statements are being recorded by the court in connection with the yacht party attended by Garg on September 19, 2025, the day the singer died in Singapore. The prosecution is presenting the testimony of individuals connected with the yacht outing and events preceding and following the incident.
Zubeen Garg, 52, died following an incident during a yacht trip in waters off Lazarus Island in Singapore. At the time, the singer was in Singapore to attend the North East India Festival and was scheduled to perform at the event the following day.
His death subsequently led to investigations and legal proceedings in Assam. The fast-track court has been hearing the case, with the prosecution examining witnesses who may provide accounts of the yacht trip and the sequence of events surrounding Garg’s death.
Earlier this month, Singapore-based Assamese Parikshit Sharma appeared before the court and recorded his testimony. Sharma was among those present aboard the yacht when the incident occurred on September 19, 2025.
Several other overseas-based witnesses have also been examined during the proceedings. They include Sushmita Goswami, Pratim Lahkar and Debajyoti Hazarika. Jio Langsat Narzary has also been listed among the expatriate witnesses connected with the case.
The prosecution’s witness examination is focused on accounts relating to the yacht outing, the circumstances surrounding Garg’s final hours and the sequence of events associated with his death. Their statements are being placed before the court as part of the prosecution evidence in the ongoing trial.
The proceedings in Assam are continuing separately from the investigation conducted by Singapore authorities into the singer’s death. In March 2026, Singapore State Coroner Adam Nakhoda said Garg’s death was an accidental drowning. The Singapore Police Force also said its investigation found no evidence of foul play.
Despite the findings by Singapore authorities, the Assam Criminal Investigation Department constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death following allegations raised by members of his family and others.
The SIT subsequently registered a criminal case and filed a chargesheet naming seven accused persons. Among those named were Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sarma, festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, and bandmates Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta. The chargesheet included allegations of murder and criminal conspiracy in connection with the incident.
The Assam court is now examining the case and evidence presented under the applicable Indian legal process. The testimony of witnesses associated with the Singapore incident forms part of the prosecution’s evidence as the trial progresses.

With Abhimanyu Talukdar appearing before the fast-track court, the examination of overseas-based witnesses connected with the Singapore episode continues. His statement is expected to form part of the evidence being considered by the court along with testimonies from other witnesses.
Further witness examinations are expected as the fast-track court proceeds with the trial. The proceedings will continue to examine the evidence and accounts presented by the prosecution in relation to the events surrounding Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore.
