Actor and filmmaker Randeep Hooda has received his first National Film Award, winning the honour for Best Debut Director for his biographical film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. Hooda marked the achievement with his family, including his wife Lin Laishram and their daughter Nyomica, and described the occasion as a deeply personal and memorable moment.
The award was presented at the 72nd National Film Awards, where Hooda was recognised for his directorial debut. Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, marked a significant milestone in Hooda’s career, as he took on multiple responsibilities as actor, filmmaker and producer associated with the project.
On Wednesday, Hooda shared glimpses from the prestigious ceremony on social media, posing with his National Award alongside Lin Laishram and their daughter. Reflecting on the occasion, the actor said that he was present at the ceremony not only in his professional identity as Randeep Hooda but also as Nyomica’s father.
Hooda dedicated the National Award to the large team that worked on Swatantrya Veer Savarkar and to audiences who have supported his cinematic journey over the past 25 years. In his social media post, he reflected on how an artist can become more focused on the work itself than on the recognition that may follow.

Hooda and Lin Laishram married on November 29, 2023, in Imphal, Manipur. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Nyomica, on March 10, 2026. The National Award ceremony therefore became one of the first major public milestones in Hooda’s career that he could share with his young family.
The filmmaker said the recognition has encouraged him to continue working with greater enthusiasm. He described the National Award as a significant acknowledgement after years of dedication to cinema and said the honour motivated him to do more.
For Hooda, the award represents a new chapter in a career spanning around 25 years. Known for his performances across Hindi cinema, he has now added another major achievement by being recognised for his work behind the camera.
