Amra Bengali staged a protest in Agartala over rising prices, unemployment, TET-qualified teacher recruitment, road repairs, government vacancies, and employment opportunities for local unemployed people.
The Amra Bengali party staged a protest in Agartala on Sunday, raising concerns over the rising prices of essential commodities, unemployment and the delayed recruitment of candidates who have cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). The protesters also submitted a five-point charter of demands covering employment, education, road infrastructure and the economic concerns of local residents.
State secretary Gouranga Rudra Pal, publicity secretary Dulal Ghosh and central committee member Ashok Kumar Das were among the party leaders who attended the protest. Addressing the gathering, the leaders raised concerns over the increasing cost of essential commodities and claimed that the prices of petrol, diesel and rice had placed additional financial pressure on households.
The protesters also alleged that taxes collected in connection with the Smart City project had increased the financial burden on residents. According to the party, the economic difficulties were being felt not only by households but also by small businesses and local shopkeepers, who they claimed were facing challenges in sustaining their activities.
Employment was another major issue highlighted during the demonstration. The party demanded that unemployed local people should be given opportunities to use government land and infrastructure for employment and business activities. It said such measures could help unemployed residents establish small businesses and generate livelihoods.
The recruitment of TET-qualified candidates was also prominently raised by the protesters. Party leaders alleged that several youths who had completed BEd courses and successfully cleared TET were still waiting for government appointments. They further claimed that some government schools were facing shortages of teachers, which, according to them, was affecting academic activities.
The party called for greater priority to be given to the education sector, including the recruitment of adequate numbers of teachers and improvement of school infrastructure. The protesters argued that filling vacant teaching positions was important to address shortages in government schools and support regular academic activities.
The demonstration also touched upon issues concerning the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), the tripartite agreement and matters related to the rights of the Bengali community. The party sought greater clarity from the government regarding these issues.
At the protest, the Amra Bengali party pressed for a five-point charter of demands. The demands included steps to control the prices of essential commodities, immediate recruitment against vacant government posts and urgent repair of roads in Agartala ahead of Durga Puja.
The party also demanded that shops be created on government-provided land to facilitate employment opportunities for local unemployed people. In addition, it called for the immediate recruitment of unemployed candidates who have qualified in TET.

The protest brought together the party’s concerns over price rise, unemployment, teacher recruitment, infrastructure and local livelihood opportunities. The five-point charter placed these issues before the government, with the party seeking action on the demands raised during the demonstration.
