Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha inspected Maharajganj Fish Market in Agartala, reviewing traffic congestion, cleanliness, waste management and infrastructure. He stressed public cooperation, better market organisation and phased development to create a cleaner, safer and more convenient environment for traders and shoppers.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday inspected the fish market at Maharajganj Bazar in Agartala and took stock of various issues affecting traders, shoppers and residents. During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed traffic congestion, cleanliness, waste management, market infrastructure and the overall functioning of the busy commercial area.
Dr. Saha was accompanied by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder and other officials during the inspection. He toured different sections of the market and interacted with traders, local residents and concerned officials to understand the difficulties faced by people visiting and operating businesses in the area.
Maharajganj Bazar is among the busiest commercial hubs in Agartala and experiences a large number of shoppers and traders every day. The heavy movement of people and vehicles, particularly goods vehicles involved in loading and unloading, frequently creates congestion around the market. During the inspection, the Chief Minister discussed possible measures to regulate vehicle movement and improve traffic flow.
Dr. Saha also placed strong emphasis on maintaining cleanliness at the fish market and surrounding areas. He urged traders and members of the public to avoid littering and ensure that waste is disposed of only at designated locations. He stressed that maintaining a clean and hygienic marketplace cannot be achieved through administrative measures alone and requires the active cooperation of traders, shoppers and local residents.
The Chief Minister reviewed the existing facilities and the condition of the marketplace while assessing the need for improvements in infrastructure and overall market management. He said the government was considering several measures aimed at making Maharajganj Bazar cleaner, better organised and more modern.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Dr. Saha said the problems affecting the market would be identified and addressed in a phased manner. He indicated that traffic management, infrastructure development and cleanliness would remain among the key priorities in efforts to improve the market.
The Chief Minister further said that any development plan for Maharajganj Bazar should focus on the convenience and safety of the general public while also protecting the interests of traders. Better arrangements would be explored to provide shoppers with a safer and more comfortable environment, while ensuring that traders can continue their business activities without unnecessary difficulties.
Dr. Saha also said discussions would be held with the concerned departments to determine suitable administrative measures for easing traffic congestion and strengthening the management of the market. The inspection is expected to help authorities assess the existing challenges and formulate steps for improving facilities and services at one of Agartala’s important commercial centres.
