Tripura will receive Rs 91.51 crore in central assistance under PM-RKVY and Krishonnati Yojana to boost farmers’ income, reduce cultivation costs, promote micro-irrigation, modern machinery and technology, and strengthen agricultural development across the state.
Tripura is set to receive Rs 91.51 crore in central assistance as the second tranche under two major agricultural schemes, Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and Krishonnati Yojana (KY). The funds have been approved by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to support agricultural development and improve the economic prospects of farmers in the state.
The approval is part of a larger allocation of Rs 1,183.11 crore for five states — Tripura, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu. The financial assistance is aimed at strengthening agricultural infrastructure, increasing farm productivity, reducing cultivation costs and encouraging farmers to adopt modern technologies.
According to an official statement, Chouhan reviewed the implementation of the schemes through a video conference with agriculture ministers and senior officials from the five states. Agriculture Secretary Atish Chandra also participated in the meeting.
The Union Agriculture Minister directed the states to speed up implementation of the approved initiatives at the ground level. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the benefits of the central schemes reach every eligible farmer within the stipulated time.
The central assistance is expected to help states expand micro-irrigation under the ‘Per Drop More Crop’ initiative. The programme focuses on improving water-use efficiency, conserving water resources and supporting higher agricultural yields.
The funds will also facilitate assistance to small and marginal farmers for purchasing modern agricultural machinery under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM). Greater access to modern equipment is expected to reduce dependence on manual labour, lower cultivation expenses and improve farming efficiency.
Among the five states, Andhra Pradesh will receive the largest allocation of Rs 409.40 crore, followed by Tamil Nadu with Rs 355.88 crore, Odisha with Rs 219.65 crore, Uttarakhand with Rs 106.67 crore and Tripura with Rs 91.51 crore.
For Tripura, the additional central funding is expected to strengthen ongoing agricultural initiatives and encourage the adoption of technology-driven farming practices. The assistance could also support efforts to improve productivity and farm incomes while promoting more efficient use of water and agricultural resources.

The latest allocation highlights the Centre’s focus on strengthening state-level agricultural programmes and ensuring that financial support is translated into practical benefits for farmers.
