Former Tripura CM Manik Sarkar criticized the TIPRA Motha-led TTAADC, alleging failures in employment, infrastructure, and tribal welfare. He claimed growing public dissatisfaction over unfulfilled election promises and urged voters to assess the council’s performance and accountability in tribal areas.
Former Tripura Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar on Thursday launched a strong attack on the TIPRA Motha-led administration in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), alleging that the council has failed to deliver on the promises it made to the indigenous people despite receiving a decisive mandate in the council elections.
Addressing a public gathering, Sarkar questioned the overall performance of the TTAADC leadership and claimed that the council has not made significant progress in improving the lives of tribal communities. According to him, major issues such as employment generation, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and socio-economic welfare continue to remain unresolved across the autonomous district council areas.
The veteran Left leader alleged that the promises made by the ruling TIPRA Motha during the TTAADC elections have largely remained unfulfilled. He said that many people who had voted with hopes of better governance and accelerated development are now expressing disappointment over the council’s performance.
Sarkar claimed that unemployment remains one of the most pressing concerns in the tribal areas, with a large number of educated youth struggling to find suitable employment opportunities. He alleged that the lack of adequate job creation has forced many young people from indigenous communities to migrate outside Tripura in search of better livelihoods.
He further stated that economic hardship continues to affect numerous tribal families, and the council has failed to introduce sustainable development initiatives that could generate long-term employment and improve living standards. According to Sarkar, stronger policy implementation and effective governance are essential to ensure balanced development in the autonomous district council areas.
The former Chief Minister also questioned the accountability of the present TTAADC administration, alleging that the leadership has not responded adequately to the concerns raised by residents. He said that people had expected transparent governance, faster implementation of development projects, and improved public services after the change in leadership, but those expectations have not been fulfilled.

Sarkar urged voters to carefully evaluate whether the objectives and commitments made during the council elections have translated into tangible development on the ground. He said democratic accountability requires elected representatives to deliver on their promises and remain answerable to the people.
Claiming that public sentiment is gradually changing, Sarkar alleged that an increasing number of residents in the TTAADC areas are questioning the council’s performance and demanding greater transparency, better governance, and visible development initiatives. He maintained that issues related to employment, infrastructure, and socio-economic welfare should remain the primary focus of the council’s administration.

The remarks come amid continuing political debates over governance and development in the tribal areas of Tripura, where the TTAADC plays a crucial role in implementing welfare and development programmes for indigenous communities.
